Know Your Fabric

There’s no better time than now to reinvent your wardrobe and the answer to elevating any outfit this winter is mixing the contemporary with some of your vintage or “well-loved” pieces. Here is a guide to what it takes to get an outfit to the next level.

First, add extreme surface texture and create vivid surfaces with hair and furlike effects. Trends come and go, but some pieces are forever – like fashion’s favourite Teddy coat, made up in warm furlike fabrics. Our Alpine, Plush fur and chunky Sherpa or Snuggle fleeces will add volume and warmth to garments.   Texture qualities like our Quilting also adds interest to smooth surfaces and soft touch Peach poly knits. This year neutrals are trending, and we followed suite with our Alpine fur and Sherpas colours.  We included more playful colours in our plush fur and snuggle fleece which are perfect for throw on and effortless warm stylish oversized jumpers and overlays. In contrast, smooth surfaced Pleather is flattering and buttery soft to the touch. These are available in neutral colours as well as our New Yorker, an embossed croc foil design on a comfortable knitted ponti base.   Then consider, cosy cut and sew for Ladies, Men’s and Kids Wear. Our Cashmere, Leisure Rib and Leisure cut sew knits are important winter fabrics. They offer warmth, a soft touch against the skin and comfort when styled into body contour dresses, fitted polo neck or funnel sweaters. Cashmere also pleats beautifully for skirts and dresses.

Our animal catwalk and houndstooth (Camden check) prints add another dimension to the traditional plain cashmere base colours. This base is stunning for loosely fitted tops and pull-on wide leg knit pants. Also check out our mohair lookalike Exclusive and Supreme knits perfectly versatile both for leisure wear ranges and smart casual skirts and dresses.

Our Cosmo Fleece provides a sense of comfort and familiarity. Soft and brushed on the reverse side. It is ideal for casual hoodies, cargo pants and trendy sweatshirt dresses, producing a warm cuddly cocoon. In keeping with a growing global awareness to consider our environment we offer earthy shades in melanges, stone, military green, black, light, and charcoal greys.     Finally, add our special winter chic fabrics to produce classic statement pieces. Transitional print direction embraces individuality and self-expression. Darker ground colours and hints of autumn brights like our burgundy–coloured Santorini and chocolate themed Café Med prints are good choices.

You can also create a contemporary look by including traditional patterns like checks and plaids. Classic Ponti and Bengaline Checks such as our Windsor Ponti Check and Harry Check will elevate your look. These are suited to both Men’s, Ladies and kids wear and will be perfect for joggers, soft suiting, oversized trousers, and tailored dresses. Grainy textures can also be introduced by using our Boucle or bengaline tweed looks such as mono blk/wht, Al Capone and Classic tweed for blazers, fitting cigarette pants and pleated skirts.   Since Velour is even hotter this season, we introduced an array of indulgent rich colours as well as a lurex crinkle velour. Velour garments give a powerful message of confidence through its plush sexy drape as well as tuxedo blazers for men’s wear.

This season our Winter Barbie and Signature suitings are available in traditional suiting colours or supercharged in hyper brights for a bold statement.

The emphasis is on wearable partywear or occasion wear with a hint of a shimmer such as our versatile floral Lace, Bishu knits in classic earthy colours, or our gleaming black foil cut and sew knit. Dress it up or down depending on the occasion.   There’s no better time than now to reinvent your wardrobe so embrace the chance to pick up a few new fabrics and re fresh your look!
